Indian Revenue Services Officers of 2001 Batch Elevated to Level 15 Before IAS Batchmates For The First Time.

The Modi Government has approved the promotion of 20 Indian Revenue Service (IRS-IT) officers of the 2001 batch to the prestigious rank of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr. CIT) in Level 15 of the Pay Matrix (₹1,82,200 – ₹2,24,100).

IRS Officers Outpace IAS Batchmates

Traditionally, IAS officers are the first to be empanelled for senior administrative positions in Level 15, followed by officers from other All India and Central Civil Services such as the IRS, IPS, and IFS.

However, this decision places IRS officers ahead of their IAS peers for the 2001 batch. Notably, the IAS 2000 batch saw empanelment of only 16 officers as Additional Secretaries earlier this year 15 in March 2025 and one in June 2025. while empanelment for the 2001 batch IAS officers has not yet commenced
