“I believed Hindu men are loyal and never marry twice or keep mistresses. That’s why I chose to marry one,” says Hina Jatav, a Muslim woman from Indore, who converted and married Harikishan alias Krishna Jatav, a gym trainer from Chhatarpur’s Nowgong, in 2013. Two years after their marriage, Hina gave birth to a son in 2015 — but soon discovered that her husband was involved with multiple women. “I’ve been living separately for years. He neither grants me a divorce nor lives with me,” she said, speaking to Dainik Bhaskar. Recently, Hina came into the spotlight after she confronted one of her husband’s alleged girlfriends to help her get justice, claiming Krishna had assaulted and cheated on her as well. Marriage in temple, then again in mass wedding ceremony Hina, who was earlier known by her maiden name Khan, said, “We first got married in a temple in 2013 in Nowgong, then again in Indore in a mass wedding ceremony in 2015.” During her pregnancy, she found out about Krishna’s affair with another woman. When she confronted him, he allegedly began to abuse her physically. Hina said she sought help from her mother-in-law Durga Devi and brother-in-law Rinku, but they dismissed her concerns saying, “You come from a religion that allows more than one marriage, so why does it bother you?” Hina says this broke her completely — “I married him thinking Hindu men are faithful and bound by law to one wife.” After six years, she reappears to ‘protect other women’ Hina said she stayed silent for years, believing her husband had moved on. But when one of Krishna’s girlfriends called her, claiming he had beaten her, broken her arm, and caused severe injuries, Hina decided to step forward again. “He’s now working in Nagpur and living with another girl barely 20 years old. His family is even planning to get him married again, though our divorce isn’t finalized,” she said. Confrontation at husband’s home in Indore Hina said she went to Krishna’s Indore home with one of his alleged girlfriends when she learned he had returned from Nagpur. “That house is still mine because the divorce isn’t finalized,” she said. However, her in-laws locked the house and refused to let her in. “They hurled abuses at me, but I had to speak out — Krishna is ruining other women’s lives.” Police complaint filed; domestic violence allegations resurface On October 22, Hina filed an application at Lasudiya Police Station, alleging that her husband’s family assaulted her when she tried to enter the house. She had previously filed a domestic violence and dowry harassment complaint in 2019 at a One Stop Center in Indore. In another complaint, she alleged that her husband accused her of having an affair with his own elder brother. Husband denies allegations, says wife left for Dubai Responding to Hina’s claims, Krishna Jatav told Dainik Bhaskar: “Our son was just one year old when she left for Dubai. That’s when I filed for divorce.” He added that Hina “created a scene” at his home recently, forcing his family to bar her entry. “She’s troubling us unnecessarily. Police have already warned her not to come to my house,” he claimed. Brother alleges Hina remarried Krishna’s elder brother Rinku Jatav also responded, stating, “The divorce case is ongoing. Krishna attends every court date, but Hina never shows up. We’ve learned she has married another man, and we’ve submitted proof in court.” Hina’s message to women Hina urged other women to be cautious, especially those who go to gyms: “Before trusting any man, know his background, meet his family, and verify his intentions.
