Chaos broke out on Monday at Ashoknagar’s old agricultural produce market during the distribution of DAP fertiliser tokens. The situation spiralled out of control after a farmer fainted in the crowd, prompting enraged farmers to storm the office and vandalise it. As news spread that a farmer had lost consciousness, tempers flared among the waiting crowd. Enraged farmers began pelting stones and kicking at the office gate and windows, causing significant damage. A video of the vandalism has since surfaced. The unconscious farmer was promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention. Officials and police restore order Upon receiving reports of the unrest, administrative and police teams rushed to the scene. Kotwali Police Station In-charge Ravi Pratap Chauhan, Tehsildar Bhartendu Yadav, Naib Tehsildar Shambhu Meena, and Deputy Director of Agriculture Amit Singh Bhadoriya took charge of the situation. Through their intervention and dialogue with the farmers, calm was eventually restored. 2 farmers collapse, distribution resumes Amid the large and restless crowd, a second farmer also fainted. Officials swiftly escorted him to safety and assisted. Following this, token distribution was resumed from both gates of the market to ease congestion. Farmers were informed that DAP fertiliser tokens would be distributed until 24 November. Bundle of tokens reportedly snatched During the resumed process, another disturbance occurred when an individual allegedly snatched a bundle of tokens. Authorities are investigating the incident to identify those responsible and ensure a smoother distribution in the coming days.
