OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT, has leased a 50-seater office in Delhi, marking its first physical presence in India. As reported by The Economic Times, the office space has been taken on lease from premium workspace provider ‘CorporateEdge’. Earlier in August, OpenAI had announced plans to set up an office in India and had been scouting for suitable locations in Delhi. The company is also assembling a local team to collaborate with the Indian government, businesses, and developers. Altman had said – We are excited to invest in India OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in August that opening the first office in India is a key plan for the company, to develop AI for India and with India. He said: The pace of AI adoption in India has been amazing. We are excited to invest more in India. India is the company’s second largest market The company said that in terms of users, India is its second largest market after the US and one of the fastest-growing markets. In the last one year, the number of weekly active users of ChatGPT in India has more than quadrupled. Not only this, India is one of the top-5 markets for OpenAI developers. Also, among students using ChatGPT worldwide, the highest number of students are from India. What is CorporateEdge, which provides office space to OpenAI? CorporateEdge is a premium workspace provider that offers fully-furnished, ready-to-move offices. It includes amenities like high-speed internet, meeting rooms, security, and housekeeping. The company recently leased 42,000 sq ft of premium office space at the World Trade Center, Nauroji Nagar, Delhi, which includes over 500 workstations, 5 high-tech meeting rooms, private phone booths, collaborative spaces, and a Workbench Cafe. CorporateEdge expects to reach a total portfolio of 5.9 lakh sq ft by the end of the current financial year.
