The Haryana government has formally relieved Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur IPS of 1990 Batch of his duties, paving the way for the appointment of a new police chief from January 1, 2026. Kapoor, who returned from a two-month leave on Saturday, has been posted as Chairman of the Haryana Police Housing Corporation and is expected to assume the new role on Monday. The decision comes amid the fallout from the alleged suicide of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar IPS of 2001 Batch in which Kapoor’s name had surfaced. OP Singh IPS of 1992 Batch who heads the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau and the Forensic Science Laboratory, Madhuban, assumed charge as officiating DGP. Singh will continue in this role until the further Orders.
