The stock market saw an upward trend on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Sensex settled at 82,344.68 points, registering a gain of 487 points. Similarly, Nifty closed on a positive note at 25,342.75 points. The recently signed free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union (EU) has proved to be a catalyst for the Indian markets. India and the 27-nation bloc finalised the FTA on Tuesday after 18 years of negotiations. The announcement was made by the leaders of India and the EU during the 16th India-EU Summit. Union Minister Piyush Goyal had said the India-EU Free Trade Agreement was a strong and independent deal. India is the world’s fourth-largest economy, while the EU is the second-largest. Together, they account for about 25% of global GDP and roughly one-third of the world’s total trade. Asian markets display mixed movement Foreign investors sold shares worth ₹3,068 crore on January 27 Sensex closed up 319 points on Tuesday The stock market closed with gains on January 27. Sensex closed 319 points higher at 81,857 level. Nifty also rose by 126 points, closing at the level of 25,175. ​
