Deputy Director General (SAI) & Overall In-Charge of Khelo India Mr Mayank Shrivastava’s instruction to his team was very clear from the word go that the 1st Khelo India Tribal Games event 2026 which is going to organised first time in India at Tribal dominated Chhattisgarh state must be able to leave an indelible mark at any cost.

The Khelo India program has achieved significant success in building a grassroots sports culture in India under the leadership of Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Overall In-Charge of the Khelo India Division Mr Mayank Shrivastava.

On the occasion of the Inauguration the Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Praised Deputy Director General (DDG) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) And Overall In-Charge of the Khelo India Division Mr Mayank Shrivastava for his Strategic Vision and Leadership in Handling India’s Most Important Aspects of PM Modi’s Vision Khelo India Programme launched by PM Narendra Modi, is a Flagship Initiative Aimed at Transforming India into a “Sporting Nation” by Fostering a Culture of Sports at the Grassroots Level and Achieving Excellence on the Global Stage.

CM Vishnu Deo Sai specially Lauded the Hard Working and Effort of Dy Director General (DDG) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Overall In-Charge of the Khelo India Division (IPS) Mr Mayank Shrivastava along with sports department for the successful conduct of the 1st Khelo India Tribal Games and insisted that the next edition would be held on a much bigger scale on the soil of Chhattisgarh.

The first edition of the Tribal Games concluded in Chhattisgarh, marking a major step in tribal empowerment and talent scouting and the program’s broader impact is visible through several key metrics as reported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports

Under the Khelo India movement, the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), the Khelo India University Games (KIUG), Khelo India Para Games and the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) were set up as annual national sports competitions where youngsters, representing their states and universities, respectively, showcased their skills and competed for medals.

KIRTI is a nationwide initiative to identify and nurture sporting talent among children aged 9 to 18. The program uses Talent Assessment Centres (TACs) across the country, standardized protocols, and advanced IT tools (including AI and data analytics) for transparent, merit-based selection. There are 174 TACs in the country as of present.

The 1st Khelo India Tribal Games, held in Chhattisgarh was a massive success, thanks to the efforts of Team Mayank Shrivastava an IPS Officer of Chhattisgarh cadre who is presently serving as a Overall In-Charge of Khelo India Division Government of India and Deputy Director General Sports Authority of India. This inaugural edition brought together over 2,000 tribal athletes from 30 states and Union Territories, competing in seven main sports disciplines, including archery, athletics, football, hockey, swimming, weightlifting, and wrestling.
