Datia by-election Heating up, As Delhi High Court Adjourned The Hearing On Bharti’s Appeal

The Datia by-election is heating up as the Delhi High Court has adjourned the hearing on former Datia MLA Rajendra Bharti’s appeal against his conviction in a bank fraud case to April 15. Bharti was sentenced to three years in jail, leading to the vacancy of the Datia assembly seat. BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal today met with Narottam Mishra, a strong contender for the seat, to discuss strategy. Mishra, a six-time MLA, lost to Bharti in the last election but is expected to contest again

The by-election’s direction hinges on the April 15 hearing. If Bharti’s conviction is upheld, he may be barred from contesting for six years, making the seat a potential win for the BJP
