West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said illegal factories operating without approved building plans, fire safety measures, or electrical safety norms will face strict action across Kolkata. Bengal targets illegal factory operations strictly Referring to the recent Tiljala incident, the Chief Minister stated that the factory was “completely illegal” and confirmed that the owners, Sheikh Nasir and Shamim Ahmed, were arrested on Tuesday morning in connection with Tiljala Police Station Case No. 226. Adhikari announced that the government has ordered permanent electricity disconnection for the factory, with instructions already issued to CESC through the state Power Secretary. Government orders permanent electricity disconnection He further directed authorities to conduct immediate internal audits of unauthorized factories in areas including Kasba, Tiljala, Mominpur, and Iqbalpur. The audits aim to identify establishments operating without sanctioned building plans and disconnect their electricity supply. Illegal structures to face immediate demolition The Chief Minister also instructed the Municipal and Urban Development Secretary to demolish illegal structures within 24 hours with assistance from Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Kolkata Police. Water supply cut for hazardous units Additionally, the KMC has been directed to cut off water supply to illegal and hazardous factory units. Adhikari said the state government is adopting a “zero tolerance” policy against such unauthorized operations in Kolkata. ​
