A Pakistani terrorist linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who had entered India to carry out terror attacks, allegedly paused his mission to fulfil a personal wish. According to investigators, he got a hair transplant in Srinagar and later planned to flee India using fake Aadhaar and PAN cards. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Sunday that the terrorist was identified as Mohammad Usman Jatt, also known as ‘Chinese’. Last month, Srinagar Police arrested Jatt along with Abdullah alias Abu Huraira. Both are accused of setting up sleeper cells outside Jammu and Kashmir. The case was later handed over to the NIA. During questioning, Jatt reportedly told investigators that his views changed after seeing life in Kashmir. He claimed the reality there was very different from what he had been told in the LeT training camps in Pakistan. Terrorist entered India to build sleeper cell network Officials said Usman Jatt is from Lahore and is a trained Lashkar operative. He was allegedly involved in terrorist activities in North and Central Kashmir and was sent to establish sleeper cell networks outside Jammu and Kashmir after entering India illegally. According to the NIA, Jatt stayed in the upper areas of Srinagar after entering India. During that period, he met Pakistani terrorists Zargam and Abdullah alias Abu Huraira, who is said to be an experienced Lashkar member. Learned about hair transplant from a shopkeeper Jatt reportedly told investigators that Zargam took him to a shop in Srinagar and introduced him to the owner as a trusted person. During their conversation, Jatt learned that the shopkeeper had undergone a hair transplant. After hearing this, Jatt also decided to get the treatment. Investigators said he had been suffering from severe hair loss for years and believed such procedures were only available at very high costs in Western countries. Travelled to Punjab and tried learning English According to officials, Jatt stayed in contact with the shopkeeper, who later helped arrange the hair transplant at a clinic in Srinagar. The procedure involved several sessions, and Jatt reportedly stayed overnight at the clinic multiple times. After the treatment, he travelled by passenger vehicle to Jammu and then by sleeper bus to Malerkotla in Punjab. There, he reportedly watched Turkish television shows and tried to learn English. Planned to obtain fake identity documents During interrogation, Jatt allegedly admitted that he wanted to obtain genuine-looking Aadhaar and PAN cards and later secure a passport to escape India. Officials claimed he was trying to follow the example of Umar alias ‘Khargosh’, a Karachi-based terrorist who allegedly escaped to Indonesia in 2024 using a fake passport obtained from Jaipur. Authorities believe Umar is currently hiding in a Gulf country. Terror module uncovered after Delhi blast The discovery of this inter-state Lashkar-e-Taiba module comes around six months after the Al-Falah terror module was uncovered in November 2025. That investigation had exposed a network of radicalised and educated individuals, including doctors. Among those accused was Dr Umar-un-Nabi of Al Falah University, who was allegedly driving a vehicle carrying explosives near the Red Fort on November 10 last year. More than a dozen people were killed in the blast.
