Tibetan spiritual leader 14th Dalai Lama was presented with the prestigious Grammy Award at his official residence in Dharamshala. The honour was handed over by renowned sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, accompanied by his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash. The Dalai Lama received the award for his audio album, Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness The Dalai Lama. In the music industry, the Grammy is regarded as one of the highest honours, often compared to the Oscars in the film world. Renowned music producer and author Kabir Sehgal was also present during the ceremony. Collaboration of wisdom and Indian classical music The award-winning album is the result of a collaboration between the Dalai Lama, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons. It combines the Dalai Lama’s reflections on compassion, peace, self-awareness and the unity of humanity with Indian classical music. To celebrate the occasion, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons performed special sarod compositions in honour of the Dalai Lama. Speaking at the event, Amjad Ali Khan said, “Music breaks boundaries and connects hearts. The peace in His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s voice is the true recipient of this Grammy.” Dalai Lama expresses gratitude Accepting the award, the Dalai Lama thanked the entire team involved in the project. He said that music is not merely a source of entertainment but also a powerful medium for fostering inner peace and compassion. Kabir Sehgal’s key role in the project Indian-American producer Kabir Sehgal played a significant role as co-producer in developing the album. Sehgal, who has won multiple Grammy Awards himself, shared his experience of bringing the Dalai Lama’s message to a global audience through music. This unique collaboration highlights the shared belief that music, wisdom and compassion can together promote inner peace and greater understanding among people around the world. The prestigious award serves as a reminder that when the message of peace meets the universal language of music, it can resonate across borders and cultures. ​
