CM Sai’s Go-To Bureaucrat: Rajat Bansal Tasked With Strengthening State’s Public Outreach

Technocrat-Turned-IAS Officer Chosen to Lead Chhattisgarh’s Information & Minerals Framework

In CM Sai’s Core Team, Rajat Bansal Emerges as Key Face of Governance Communication

In contemporary governance, communication has moved from a supportive role to a central pillar of administration. The Information and Public Relations Department now serves as the eyes, ears, and voice of the government, shaping public perception and ensuring welfare policies reach citizens effectively. At the helm of this critical function in Chhattisgarh is IAS Rajat Bansal, entrusted with leading the state’s communication strategy.

A 2012-batch Brilliant IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, Bansal hails from Haryana. His academic record reflects both discipline and excellence. He studied at La Martiniere School, Lucknow, and DPS RK Puram, Delhi, where he topped his school in Class 10. He later earned a degree in Computer Science Engineering and began his career with a multinational company.

Driven by a commitment to public service, Bansal shifted to civil services. He secured an IPS Rank in His First Attempt and achieved his goal of joining the IAS in his second attempt, formally entering service on September 3, 2012. His administrative career began as Assistant Collector in Raigarh. In August 2014, he became SDM of Rajnandgaon. Since then, he has held key posts including CEO, Zila Panchayat in Rajnandgaon and Surajpur, Commissioner, Raipur Municipal Corporation, and Collector of Dhamtari, Bastar, and Balodabazar-Bhatapara districts.

Across these assignments, Bansal earned a reputation for efficient execution, strong grassroots connect, and balanced governance. His experience spans rural development, urban administration, and district management, giving him a comprehensive grasp of policy implementation and citizen engagement.

Recognizing the importance of effective communication, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has entrusted Bansal with the role of Commissioner, Public Relations Department. The position demands administrative capability, strategic communication skills, media awareness, and the ability to interpret public sentiment in an era of rapid information flow.

Today, governments operate under constant public scrutiny, where perception shapes credibility. The Public Relations Department plays a decisive role in projecting policies, managing narratives, and building trust between the administration and citizens. It is through this channel that welfare schemes gain visibility, grievances are addressed, and constructive media dialogue is maintained.

Bansal’s appointment reflects the state government’s intent to strengthen its communication framework with experienced leadership. Known for integrating policy execution with public outreach, he is seen as well-suited to meet the evolving demands of governance communication.

As Chhattisgarh advances its development agenda, a responsive and credible communication system remains crucial. Governance succeeds not only through policy formulation but through public awareness, trust, and participation — areas where the Public Relations Department stands at the forefront. Bansal’s dedication and vision are expected to maximize the impact of the state’s outreach efforts.
