A complaint has been lodged against Indian Premier League (IPL) cricketer Abishek Porel at Magra Police Station in Hooghly district, alleging that he cohabited with a woman on the promise of marriage. The cricketer has denied the allegations, calling them false. Porel, a wicketkeeper-batter for the Delhi Capitals and a key player for the Bengal cricket team, is a resident of Chandannagar. IPL player faces serious allegation According to police sources, a young woman currently pursuing medical studies in Karnataka visited Magra Police Station on Monday and filed a complaint against the cricketer. She was accompanied by her mother. Sources said the woman and Porel had been in a relationship for around three-and-a-half years and had allegedly planned to get married. About a year and a half ago, a dispute reportedly arose between them and the matter reached the police, although no formal complaint was filed at the time. Karnataka student files police complaint Given the seriousness of the allegations, Hooghly Rural Superintendent of Police Kunwar Bhushan Singh visited Magra Police Station. DSP (Crime) Abhijit Sinha Mahapatra and Magra Police Station IC Soumen Biswas also held discussions regarding the case and the course of action to be taken. Police have initiated an investigation to verify the allegations. Cricketer rejects allegations as false Porel is currently in Bengaluru. When contacted, he said he did not wish to comment on the matter at this stage and is spending time with his family.
