Police arrested four members of a gang for illegally conducting abortions and foetal sex determination tests in a moving car in the National Capital Region (NCR). The arrests were made in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. A portable ultrasound machine and other medical equipment were seized from the accused. The gang used to roam in Ghaziabad, Delhi, and other parts of NCR. In the car, they checked whether the child in the woman’s womb was a boy or a girl. For this, ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 were charged. If a woman wanted an abortion, she would be taken to a nursing home and an abortion would be performed by a quack doctor. Police took this action on Nalkuan Road in the City Kotwali area. Around 12 AM on Saturday night, the police received information about the gang from an informant. Following this, a four-member team was formed under the supervision of a Nodal Officer. At 2 AM, a moving car with registration number UP14FL 9355 was stopped and searched. Four youths, including the driver, were in the car. During the search, a portable ultrasound machine and other equipment were recovered. Following this, the police arrested all four accused and seized the equipment. Know the full case Kotwali SHO Sachin Baliyan stated that around 12 AM on Saturday night, the police received information from an informant that some people were conducting foetal sex determination tests in a moving car. They had called a woman to Nalkuan Road for the test and were waiting for her in a car with registration number 4FL 9355. Following this, a joint team of police and the health department reached the spot. Around 2 AM, the car was stopped and all four accused were arrested. Abortion for ₹20,000 According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sandeep (35), Salman (32), Shahid (29) and Tasleem (27). During interrogation, Sandeep revealed that he is the mastermind of the gang. He has been jailed before in a case of foetal sex determination. The accused used to roam in different areas of Delhi, Ghaziabad and NCR. Customers were contacted via WhatsApp. Foetal sex determination was done for ₹8,000 to ₹10,000. The ultrasound report was given in the car itself. If a woman wanted to have an abortion, ₹20,000 were taken from her and the abortion was performed by a quack doctor in a makeshift nursing home. To avoid police, they conducted tests in the car Sandeep revealed, during interrogation, that to avoid action by the police and health department, they used to conduct foetal sex determination tests in the car itself. Money was taken from customers according to their financial status. More money was extorted from affluent families. After the deal was finalised, the woman was taken to a temporary nursing home for an abortion. Conversations used to happen on WhatsApp Sandeep stated that to avoid getting caught, they only spoke to customers via WhatsApp calls. After the conversation was complete, they would delete the call and chat data. He also mentioned that Salman, a member of the gang, would go to different locations and contact women who wanted to undergo foetal sex determination tests. He was solely responsible for bringing in customers. Sandeep, owner of Sai Hospital Sandeep is the owner of Sai Hospital located in Banthla Colony, Loni town, Ghaziabad. He has studied up to 12th grade. Women were brought to this hospital for abortions. ACP Kotwali Upasana Pandey stated that an Ertiga car belonging to Sandeep, found with the accused, has been seized. A portable machine made in China, a probe jelly, a USG machine, and ₹20,000 have also been seized from the accused. ​
