World’s Longest Cultural Festival Vikramotsav Wins Global Acclaim

Madhya Pradesh’s flagship cultural event Vikramotsav 2026 has won the prestigious BITA Gold Award for ‘Government Event of the Year’, adding a third national honour to its name this year.

A team from BITA will visit Bhopal to present the award to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

The award was conferred at the Hindustan 2.0 National Chintan Shivir & Expo organised by the International Convention of Event Industry in Dehradun on July 15-16, 2026. The event was organised by Maharaja Vikramaditya Research Institute under the MP Government’s Department of Culture.

Vikramotsav is the world’s longest-running cultural festival, combining cultural performances with business events. Earlier this year, it also won Gold for ‘Cultural Live Event of the Year’ and Silver for ‘Best Government Participation in Live Event’ at the Show of India Conclave 2026 held in New Delhi on May 2-3, 2026.

Shri Shriram Tiwari, Cultural Advisor to CM and Director, Maharaja Vikramaditya Research Institute, said the grandeur of Vikramotsav in Ujjain is a result of CM Dr. Mohan Yadav’s visionary initiative.
“It has now become a national festival of Indian culture, history and heritage. This third national award for Vikramotsav 2026 is recognition of MP’s rich cultural legacy, excellent event management and public participation at the national and international level.”

He added that under CM Dr. Yadav’s leadership, the state government is working to give Indian culture a global identity in line with PM Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Virasat se Vikas’ – Development through Heritage.
“This achievement has not only brought pride to Madhya Pradesh but also to the entire Indian event industry. It has set a new benchmark for large-scale government events.”

Record Outreach: 17.72 Crore People Connected in 2026
Vikramotsav 2026 set a new benchmark in digital outreach.
From Feb 7 to March 24, 2026, activities related to the festival reached over 17.72 crore people.
Official social media and live streams reached 47.85 lakh people, while user-generated content and hashtags generated over 17.24 crore digital reach.

139-Day Mega Event
Vikramotsav 2026 began on Srishti Nirman Diwas – Varsh Pratipada and concluded with the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan for water conservation, running from Feb 12 to June 30, 2026.

The 139-day event was held in two phases:

1. Phase 1: Began on Mahashivratri with ‘Shivo’ham Mahadev’ performance by renowned composer Pritam
2. Phase 2: Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan from March 19 to June 30, 2026

The festival featured 41+ diverse activities with performances by 4,000+ artists.
As part of Vikramotsav 2026, the grand play ‘Samrat Vikramaditya’ was staged in Varanasi from April 3-5 to spread the message of the emperor’s good governance and justice.
