‘Indus Waters Treaty suspension will benefit Indian farmers’:President Murmu says govt is working to improve exam system

President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on the eve of the 80th Independence Day. She said that suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with a country that harbours terrorism was a decisive step for farmers. She said India is moving forward with the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. Citizens should always remain alert and aware of their responsibilities towards the nation. The President further said that students are the builders of India’s future. Just as the government and society must stand united for national security, everyone must also work together to protect the present and future of students. Suspending the Indus Waters Treaty is in the national interest President Murmu said it is the duty of everyone connected with the judicial system to ensure that no one is denied justice because of a lack of resources. She said suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with a country that supports terrorism is in the national interest, especially for farmers, and is a decisive step. 4. She said that over the past decade and more, India has achieved rapid and inclusive development and has focused on bringing together its heritage and development. 5. More than 25 crore people have come out of poverty President Murmu said India has succeeded in bringing more than 25 crore people out of poverty. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, the world’s largest financial inclusion programme, around 59 crore account holders have been connected to the banking system. More than 32 crore of them are women. She said food security has been ensured for 80 crore people through free ration. Under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, 60 crore people receive free healthcare cover of up to ₹5 lakh every year. 6. Murmu says India’s foreign policy is based on national interest President Murmu said India has signed free trade agreements with several countries to increase economic cooperation and strengthen mutual relations. She said India is playing a leading role among Global South countries and its standing on the world stage has grown. She also stressed the need to protect the environment and preserve natural resources for future generations. She said India’s respect for environmental protection is part of its traditional values, and we must ensure that future generations inherit richer natural resources.
