Chinese President Xi Jinping may visit India next month to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi, in what would be his first visit to the country in nearly seven years. India is scheduled to host the BRICS summit on September 12-13. According to Reuters, around 400 Chinese officials could accompany Xi during the visit, significantly more than the fewer than 200 officials who travelled with him to India in 2019. If confirmed, Xi’s visit would mark a significant development in India-China relations, which have remained strained in recent years. His possible participation in the summit could provide an opportunity for the two sides to discuss bilateral and regional issues on the sidelines of the meeting.
