In a major reform push, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday cleared 23 key proposals, including setting up of 900 new courts and a major hike in allowance for PRD jawans. 900 New Courts to Speed Up Justice In a major move to bring down the pendency of court cases and ensure expeditious justice, the Cabinet approved setting up 900 new courts across 75 districts. – 237 courts of Higher Judicial Service (HJS) – 391 courts of Civil Judge (Senior Division) – 272 courts of Civil Judge (Junior Division) Briefing the media, Finance Minister Shri Suresh Khanna said 1,20,66,105 cases are pending across the state. The number of courts in a district will be decided based on pendency. A total of 6,656 new posts will be created, entailing a recurring expenditure of Rs 693.59 crore per annum and non-recurring expenditure of Rs 8.72 crore. This is the first phase of Allahabad High Court’s proposal for 9,149 additional courts. Big Relief for PRD Jawans: Allowance Hiked to Rs 600 The Cabinet gave its nod to increase the duty allowance of Prantiya Raksha Dal (PRD) personnel from Rs 500 per day to Rs 600 per day, with an additional expenditure of Rs 608.68 crore.
