NTA has taken action against Aditya Motegaonkar, son of Shivraj Motegaonkar, an RCC coaching centre operator in Latur, Maharashtra, who is accused in the NEET-UG paper leak case. Aditya has been barred from appearing for the NEET-UG exam for two years and has also been declared ineligible for NEET-UG 2027. Shivraj is currently in judicial custody. According to the CBI, Shivraj paid ₹5 lakh to PV Kulkarni, who was part of the team that prepared the NEET paper, to obtain Chemistry questions. CBI’s allegation The CBI arrested Shivraj Motegaonkar in the NEET-UG paper leak case. According to the CBI, he allegedly paid ₹5 lakh to P V Kulkarni to obtain the Chemistry questions for the examination. P V Kulkarni was part of the NTA team that prepared the examination questions. The agency alleges that Shivraj’s son Aditya attended Kulkarni’s coaching class. Shivraj Motegaonkar is currently in jail. NEET-UG examination and retest The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET-UG, is conducted by the NTA for admission to medical courses. Amid allegations of a paper leak, the NTA cancelled the NEET-UG examination held on 3 May on 12 May. A retest was conducted on 21 June. The CBI filed its final report last month in Delhi’s designated fast-track court. The court hears criminal cases related to paper leaks and other malpractices in public examinations. 3 May exam was cancelled Amid allegations of a paper leak, the NTA cancelled the NEET-UG exam held on 3 May and conducted a re-examination on 21 June. NEET-UG is conducted by the NTA for admission to medical courses. The 3 May exam was held in 551 cities across India and at 14 centres abroad, with around 23 lakh candidates appearing. CBI is investigating the case According to the NTA, it received information about irregularities in the exam on the evening of 7 May. The case was then handed over to the CBI. So far, 13 accused have been arrested in the paper leak case. Last month, the CBI filed its final report in the case before a designated fast-track court in Delhi. The court is hearing criminal cases related to the paper leak and other unfair means in public examinations. Expert committee formed in 2024 On 22 June 2024, the Centre formed an expert committee headed by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan. The committee made 101 recommendations to improve the NTA’s examination system and tackle paper leaks and other irregularities.
