In Gujarat’s Dahod district, a young man and a minor girl in Hirapur village committed suicide. They also livestreamed their suicide. The two tied a dupatta to a branch of a banyan tree and hanged themselves. Around 50 people were watching the livestream, including their family members. Their family members informed the police. However, the two were in a forest around 5 km from their village, so their phone locations could not be traced in time. The police have registered a case and begun an investigation. They wanted to get married, but their families were opposed Singwad taluka PSI S.M. Jhala said the deceased man, Rajesh, was 22 years old, while the girl was 16. The two had been in a relationship for a long time. He further said that Rajesh had brought the girl home a few days earlier to introduce her to his parents. He had asked for permission to marry her, but his parents refused because the boy and girl belonged to the same caste. Both had left the village in the morning PSI S.M. Jhala further said that the incident took place on 4 October in a forested area of Hirapur village. Rajesh and the girl had left the village in the morning. They then reached the forest and climbed a banyan tree to hang themselves. Before the suicide, Rajesh had started an Instagram livestream. As soon as their location was traced, the police reached the spot and brought the bodies down. No suicide note was found at the scene. Jhala further said that after the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to their families for the last rites on Monday. It has emerged that the video is still available on the social media accounts of the people who watched and recorded it live.
