Amid Opposition’s Vote Theft Charge, 124 Ex-Civil Servants Defend Election Commission’s Credibility

Amid the ongoing controversy over alleged vote rigging and opposition attacks on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, 124 former IAS and IFS officers have come out in strong defence of the Election Commission of India.

In a joint statement, the former civil servants said the Election Commission is a constitutional body with a proven track record of conducting free and fair elections and its integrity should not be questioned for political gains. They termed the SIR as a routine and necessary exercise to ensure clean and accurate voter lists.

The former officers said that allegations of vote theft are baseless and aimed at undermining public trust in a vital democratic institution.
