Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that while the world was looking for a new world order, some people were dreaming of disorder in India. He added that some were travelling abroad to defame the country. Without naming Rahul Gandhi, Modi said he did not know how long the Congress would continue putting the country at risk to launch its “failed product”. Modi was speaking at the NDTV World Summit 2026 in New Delhi. He discussed current global politics, the economy, artificial intelligence (AI) and India’s role in the changing world. The Prime Minister said that during the Covid pandemic, when the world needed cooperation, countries prioritised their own interests. He said he had called for a new world order at the time. Key points from the PM’s speech On the changing global order Everyone is now discussing a new world order because it is affecting the lives of ordinary people. We need to understand why the global order is changing and what role India should play in this changing world. The Second World War taught the world an important lesson. Countries realised that respect, cooperation and the resolution of disputes were essential. This understanding laid the foundation for the United Nations (UN). On finding solutions to global challenges The UN has played its role, but the world now faces new challenges. Technology has completely transformed the world, and countries that were not part of the global order earlier have now become part of it. However, the challenges facing the UN today are clear. When global problems change but the methods used to solve them remain the same, gaps emerge. That is what is happening today. On the gap between global institutions and reality Trade is increasingly being weaponised, while sea routes are becoming centres of geopolitical tensions. The challenge is to find a way to accommodate these new realities. This is where India’s role comes into focus. In 2020, I said that the world needed a new world order, one that placed people at its centre. The question is not just whether the world order is changing, but also how we can bring the voices emerging in this changing world into the mainstream. Chanakya said that when the system weakens, ‘Matsya Nyaya’ emerges. This means the big fish swallows the small fish. On India’s role The stronger India becomes, the stronger the world will be. India is working towards becoming one of the world’s top three economies. The country has seen days when rising electricity demand caused the entire power grid to collapse. But when the country moves forward together, the power grid does not collapse; it advances. More than half of the world’s global capability centres are in India. Earlier, these centres focused mainly on services. India’s role is now changing, as is its identity. The world once trusted India for its manpower; today, it also trusts the country’s intellectual capabilities. On a developed India We have the goal of building a developed India. We have only one dream: “We will do it. We will do it.” We will reach new heights and present India confidently on the global stage. I am confident that India will fulfil all its aspirations. PM says family has become a burden on Congress PM Modi said he did not know how long the Congress would continue trying to launch its leader. “The number of launches involving a Congress leader in a year exceeds the number of launches from Sriharikota,” he said. He added that the family had now become a burden on the Congress. Post navigation President Smt.
