Late Tuesday night, a special meeting was held at the ministry with Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Minister of State Pratima Bagri, ACS Sanjay Dubey, and Commissioner Sanket Bhondve. Fourteen mayors attended the meeting, except for the mayors of Gwalior and Katni. During the meeting, mayors complained that many works in their cities were pending and local officials were not resolving problems. To address this, the minister arranged a face-to-face discussion between the mayors and departmental officials, reviewing issues city by city. Strict action should be taken against illegal colonies In the meeting, Jabalpur Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh said that the way illegal colonies are increasing is a matter of concern for all of us. If strict laws are not made and action is not taken to stop illegal colonies in time, it will become a big problem in the future. The Mayor of Jabalpur did not stop there, he said that strict action should be taken against illegal colonies, but such action is not happening. Hearing this, other mayors also said that there is a real need to take tough decisions on this issue. Poor people buy plots or houses tempted by low rates. The colony developer does not develop any facilities there. Later, demands start coming from the corporation and government to provide basic facilities. And this tradition of developing illegal colonies keeps growing. Mayors say – Commissioners don’t listen In the meeting, Singrauli Mayor Rani Agarwal said that public problems come to us. Many times it happens that municipal commissioners don’t listen to us, so how can work get done. Other mayors also agreed with Rani’s statement. Then Minister Vijayvargiya said – We will create such a system where mayors and municipal commissioners will meet regularly every 10 days to discuss corporation-related issues and find quick solutions to problems. Chhindwara Mayor says – Revenue land should be under corporation’s control In the meeting, Chhindwara Mayor Vikram Ahke said, there are many such revenue lands in the municipal corporation area. The corporation can use them for public utility works. But because these lands are registered under Nazul, the corporation needs to take government permission. Such revenue lands should be under the control of the municipal corporation. Ratlam Mayor said – There are continuous complaints of several irregularities in works done under AMRUT Project Phase 1. The works done under AMRUT 1 should be thoroughly investigated. Stop collecting shelter fee from commercial buildings Jabalpur Mayor said that in residential buildings, builders provide EWS houses. It’s fine to collect shelter fee from them but collecting 7% shelter fee from commercial buildings is not right. This fee should be abolished. If it cannot be abolished, it should at least be reduced. Give rights for employee recruitment A mayor said that the authority to recruit employees in the municipal corporation should be given to the mayor.
