The Crime Branch caught a gang pretending to be police officers on Wednesday night. The police arrested a fake Station House Officer, two fake constables, and a driver. They also seized fake appointment letters and identity cards. The gang was planning to patrol the highway and extort money by pretending to be an RTO team. Vaibhav Pal, who runs an online shop, told the police that a young man named Shivam Chaturvedi, claiming to be a TI posted in the SP’s office, threatened him. On Wednesday, fake TI Shivam Chaturvedi called Vaibhav Pal, demanding three more appointment letters. Vaibhav Pal immediately informed the Crime Branch about this. As soon as Shivam and his associates arrived there by car, the Crime Branch immediately apprehended them. Four suspects apprehended
During interrogation by the Crime Branch, the apprehended suspects identified themselves as Shivam Chaturvedi son of Purushottam Chaturvedi (resident of Sagar), Pawan Yadav son of Omkar Yadav (resident of Sagar), Neeraj Yadav son of Kundan Lal Yadav (resident of Sagar), and Ravindra Yadav (resident of Sagar). The investigation also revealed that Shivam was identifying himself as a TI (Station House Officer), while Pawan and Neeraj were identifying themselves as constables, and Ravindra was the driver. The four youths had come from Sagar two months ago. They used to roam in different areas of the city. They used to deceive unemployed youths by promising them jobs in the police. They used to extort money from people they trapped. They had extorted money from more than 20 people in the name of getting them recruited into the police. They had already extorted more than 25 lakh rupees. With this money, they had bought fake uniforms, shoes, stars on the uniform, and a vehicle. Their living and food expenses were also being covered. Shivam Chaturvedi, a resident of Sagar, is the gang leader. Shivam has several cases of theft and fraud registered against him in various police stations in Sagar.
