A 20-year-old woman allegedly strangled her 28-day-old newborn to death in Bhind district late Saturday night. The incident took place in Ward No. 14 of Malhanpur area. The accused, identified as Usha Baghel, killed her infant son during an argument with her husband. When her husband Jagannath Singh Baghel (21) tried to stop her, she attacked him, leaving him injured. Husband alleges constant disputes Jagannath, a daily wage laborer originally from Ladhwari Mahua Khera in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, told police that his wife had been suspecting his character for the past few days. Frequent arguments had become routine. On Saturday night, the fight escalated, and in anger, Usha strangled their 28-day-old child. Police action and investigation After receiving information, police reached the spot and sent the newborn’s body to the Community Health Center, Gohad, for post-mortem. Following the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family. The accused woman was arrested soon after. Marital dispute behind the incident According to Station In-Charge Pradeep Soni, the killing stemmed from marital discord and suspicion. A case of murder has been registered against Usha Baghel, and further investigation is underway. The couple had a court marriage earlier this year, but the relationship reportedly deteriorated within months.
