A young man from Bhopal was beaten by members of a Hindu organisation who accused him of “love jihad”. They filmed the assault and claimed the police failed to act. However, the young woman involved told the police that nothing wrong happened and asked for no action to be taken. The victim suffered serious injuries to his eyes. Assault in Bhanpur In Bhanpur, Bhopal, activists of the Maa Bhawani Hindu organisation caught a young man and beat him severely.They accused him of being involved in “love jihad”.They also claimed he was chatting with a Hindu girl. The activists recorded the incident on video and later shared it on social media.They said the police and administration were not taking any action. Victim identified as Shanu Khan The young man was identified as Shanu Khan, a resident of Eitkhedi–Ayodhya Nagar. He had gone to meet a girl. On Sunday night, while returning from meeting her, the organisation’s workers stopped him in Bhanpur. They beat him and questioned him on camera.They asked for his name and address.Visible injury marks appeared on both of his eyes. Phone checked and chats found The activists checked Shanu’s mobile phone.They found WhatsApp chats between him and the Hindu girl.In the conversation, Shanu admitted that he had gone to Ayodhya Nagar to meet her and was returning from there. Organisation files complaint Members of the Maa Bhawani Hindu organisation submitted an application at the Chhola Mandir Police Station. They demanded action against Shanu. In their videos, the activists claimed they had held Shanu for over an hour and a half.They said they had called the police station in-charge and other officials, but no one reached the spot. Girl says no wrongdoing The young woman, who was described as a “victim” by the organisation, also filed an application. She stated clearly that she did not want any action.She said nothing wrong had happened.She identified Shanu as a former acquaintance. Police statement Saraswati Chauhan, the in-charge of Chhola Mandir Police Station, confirmed the woman’s application.She said the girl had stated that no offence had been committed by Shanu.Based on her request, the police decided not to take action. ​
