In Bhopal, cutting a tree without permission can now lead to jail. Following the National Green Tribunal’s orders, the Municipal Corporation has tightened rules. Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain will personally handle all tree-cutting permissions. At the same time, Commissioner Jain has suspended two engineers for negligence in CM Infra work on Kolar Road. Manish Singh, In-charge Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) of Zone 18, and Harshdeep Soni, Sub-Engineer (Mechanical), have been suspended immediately for poor road construction and failing to provide satisfactory information. Commissioner Jain took this action expressing strong displeasure over the condition of the road constructed under CM Infra in Ward No.-83 not being of standard quality, with potholes and damaged surface at various places. Meanwhile, a show-cause notice has been issued to Executive Engineer Kolar S.K. Rajesh. The Commissioner instructed the Superintending Engineer to conduct an investigation by core cutting the road under construction under CM Infra. During this, expressing displeasure over cutting trees without permission, she said that now if anyone cuts a tree in the city without permission, they may even have to go to jail. In compliance with the order of the High Court, Municipal Commissioner Jain has revoked the previously delegated powers of the Tree Officer vested in the Commissioner. Now she herself will issue permission for tree cutting as the Tree Officer. Displeasure over pruning of trees as well Commissioner Jain expressed displeasure over the pruning of trees and plants in the city without permission and gave strict instructions that no pruning of trees should be allowed anywhere in the city without permission. If anyone prunes trees without permission, strict punitive action will be taken against them. Such a person may also have to go to jail.
