Mr. Sehgal, a 1988 batch retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, was appointed as the chief of India’s public service broadcaster on March 16, 2024. In a surprising and unprecedented development, Ex-IAS officer Navneet Kumar Sehgal has resigned as the Chairman of Prasar Bharati, bringing his tenure to an abrupt end less than nine months after he assumed office. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting accepted his resignation – submitted on December 2 – under Section 7(6) of the Prasar Bharati Act, 1990, and relieved him with immediate effect. Although his appointment was for three years or until age 70, Mr Sehgal’s stint concluded after serving just 1 year and 8 months in the role.
