At the joint press conference of the twenty-third India-Russia Summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that both the countries aim to augment the total trade size to $100 billion from the current $64 billion. He added that the trade size between the two countries were already at record highs. At the India-Russia Business Forum, India Prime Minister PM Narendra Modi said that he was of the opinion that the target of $100 billion would be achieved much before the earlier set target of 2030. Free Trade Zone: Putin also said that a free trade zone will be created between India and the Eurasian Economic Union. He added that several commercial links were established. And, both countries will build new transport and logistics routes. One of those will run from Belarus to Indian Ocean coast. India-Russia FTA Albeit, no Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed between the two countries. But, India Prime Minister PM Narendra Modi said that both countries were working towards finalising the FTA. PM Modi also said that Russia and India have agreed on the Economic Cooperation Program for 2030. PM Modi hails India-Russia friendship PM Modi says, “Over the past 8 decades, the world has witnessed numerous ups and downs. Humanity has had to pass through many challenges and crises. And amidst all this, the India-Russia friendship has remained steadfast like a pole star.” Peace Talks Vladimir Putin said that peace talks were useful. Both countries’ leaders have signed a comprehensive package that would boost trade and energy between the two tycoons. Russia India settle commercial payments in domestic currencies: Putin also said that both countries mutually use national currencies in 96% of total commercial payments. Will keep sending oil shipments to Russia: Putin Putin added that Russia would keep sending fuel shipments to India. This will provide India cheap and clean energy. India has full support of Russia regarding BRICS chairmanship Putin said that next year India will assume the BRICS chairmanship. Russia will provide all necessary assistance to India. As state founders of the BRICS, Russia and India have done a lot of things and continue to do more to increase the authority of the organisation. As you know, next year India will assume the BRICS chairmanship.
