A 2012-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, Rajat Bansal hails from Haryana. Bansal’s academic journey reflects both discipline and excellence—he completed his schooling from La Martiniere School, Lucknow, and DPS RK Puram, Delhi, where he notably topped his school in Class 10. He later pursued Computer Science Engineering and began his professional career with a multinational company.

Driven by a larger sense of public service, Bansal shifted his focus to civil services. Demonstrating exceptional determination, he secured an IPS rank in his first attempt and went on to achieve his goal of becoming an IAS officer in his second attempt. He formally joined the IAS on September 3, 2012.

His administrative career began with field training as Assistant Collector in Raigarh district. In August 2014, he was appointed SDM of Rajnandgaon, marking the beginning of his extensive field-level experience. Over the years, he has held key positions including Chief Executive Officer of District Panchayat in Rajnandgaon and Surajpur, Commissioner of Raipur Municipal Corporation, and Collector of districts such as Dhamtari, Bastar and Balodabazar-Bhatapara.

Across these roles, Bansal built a reputation for efficient execution, grassroots connect and a balanced approach to governance. His experience spans rural development, urban administration and district governance, equipping him with a comprehensive understanding of public policy implementation and citizen engagement.

Recognising the importance of effective communication in governance, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has entrusted Rajat Bansal with the responsibility of Commissioner, Public Relations Department, Government of Chhattisgarh. The role demands not only administrative capability but also strategic communication skills, media awareness and the ability to interpret public sentiment in an era of rapid information exchange.
