US President Donald Trump said he will review Iran’s new peace proposal but expressed doubt over its success, stating that Iran has yet to pay for its past actions. Trump wrote on his social media platform that he would soon examine the proposal sent by Iran, but its acceptance is unlikely. He added that Iran still has a “big price to pay” for what it has done over the past 47 years. According to Iranian agencies, Tehran has sent a 14-point proposal to the US via Pakistan. It includes ending conflicts on all fronts and creating a new framework for the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the US must now decide whether it wants dialogue or confrontation, adding that Iran is prepared for both options. Iranian official says US cannot be trusted Senior Iranian military official Mohammad Jafar Asadi said on Saturday that the US cannot be trusted and warned that war between the two countries could break out again. He stated that Iran’s military is fully prepared and will respond if the US takes any wrong step. He also accused the US of not honouring any agreements or commitments. Asadi added that statements and actions by US officials are mostly symbolic and meant for media attention. According to him, their aim is to prevent a fall in oil prices and to manage the difficult situation they have created. Iran accuses US of not following nuclear agreement Iran has accused the United States of failing to comply with nuclear commitments. On Saturday, Iran told the United Nations that the US is not adhering to the rules of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and is acting with double standards. In its statement, Iran said that for the past 56 years, the US has not fulfilled its obligations under the treaty, despite possessing thousands of nuclear weapons. Iran also said that under monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency, there is no legal restriction on uranium enrichment, as was the case with Iran. Iran plans new law on Strait of Hormuz Amid ongoing ceasefire discussions with the US, Iran is preparing a new law regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Parliament Deputy Speaker Hamidreza Haji Babaei said that under the proposed law, Israeli ships would not be allowed to pass through this route. He added that ships from enemy countries would only be allowed passage if they compensate for war damages. Additionally, vessels from other countries would need Iran’s permission to use the route. He said shipping movement in Hormuz will not remain the same after the war. Iran war poses threat of food crisis on the world Maximo Torero, Chief Economist of the UN agency FAO, has warned that the world is heading towards a major food crisis. He said that the closure of Hormuz has severely affected the supply of fertilizer. Since the start of the war, its supply has almost stopped, causing prices to rise and shortages to occur. This will impact agriculture and crop yields could decline by up to 30%. This could make food items even more expensive. Torero told Al Jazeera that the situation is worsening further because the sowing season in Asia has already passed. He also said that major countries like America and Brazil could change their crops and grow soybeans instead of wheat and corn, which would further impact the market.
