The Centre has formed a high-level committee to examine abnormal changes in the country’s population, appointing Justice Prakash Prabhakar Navlekar (Retd) as its chairman. In a post on X, Amit Shah said the panel would study population changes caused by illegal infiltration and other abnormal factors across India. He added that the committee would also analyse demographic shifts among religious and social communities and recommend solutions. Shah said abnormal population changes caused by infiltration and other factors pose a major challenge to any nation’s present and future. He noted that Narendra Modi had announced the formation of the high-level committee on 15 August 2025. What will the committee do Committee members The committee includes the country’s Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, Retd. IAS Durga Shankar Mishra, Retd. IPS Balaji Srivastava, and Dr. Shamika Ravi. The Joint Secretary (Foreigners-I) of the Ministry of Home Affairs has been appointed as the Member Secretary of the committee.
