Delhi Police have solved the murder of Delhi University assistant professor Devosmita Paul within three days, arresting a couple from Bardhaman in West Bengal. According to investigators, the accused travelled around 1,400km from West Bengal to Delhi and allegedly carried out the killing over a property dispute. Paul had inherited a property in West Bengal following her grandfather’s death, and the estate is reportedly worth several crores of rupees. Police said the couple were tenants living in the property and allegedly sought to take control of it. However, Paul had been pressing them to vacate the premises, prompting them to allegedly plot her murder in an attempt to gain possession of the property. The body of Paul, an assistant professor at Shivaji College, was discovered on Wednesday in her flat in Vasundhara Enclave, East Delhi. Couple stayed in flat for 30 minutes wearing masks During the investigation, police identified a couple entering the flat in CCTV footage. The pair remained inside for around 30 minutes before leaving. Investigators said they arrived in a private cab and used the staircase to reach the sixth floor, avoiding the lift. To deflect suspicion, the couple had allegedly brought their child with them. According to officials, they travelled to Delhi under the pretence of meeting the professor. Devosmita Paul was not answering her phone since Thursday morning Devosmita’s sister Devrati Paul had informed the police on Thursday. She told that her sister was not answering her phone since morning. When she reached the flat, the door was locked from outside. After breaking the lock and going inside, she found Devosmita in a dead state. Devosmita Paul got married in 2017 According to police, Devosmita Paul’s personal life had been stressful for some time. She got married in 2017, but discord began in her marital life right after the wedding. Due to continuously increasing domestic disputes, the couple separated in 2022. Since then, Devosmita had been living separately from her husband in Delhi, while her husband lives in Bengaluru.
