Ammonia gas leaked at a seafood export factory in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district on Sunday. According to a PTI report, seven female workers died in the accident, while 67 others were injured. Nine of the injured are on ventilators. The gas leak occurred at the St. Peter’s Paul Seafoods Exports unit. Upon receiving information about the incident, a 30-member NDRF team from the 4th Battalion headquarters in Arakkonam was dispatched to the scene. In response to the situation, the NDRF team arrived at the scene equipped with gas detection devices and specialised CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) disaster-response equipment. ₹2 lakh compensation for families of the deceased The Tamil Nadu government has announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.
