A complaint has been filed at Bishnupur Police Station seeking an investigation into the funding, management and beneficiary selection process of the “Shraddhargyo” pension scheme, a private welfare initiative publicly associated with Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee. The complaint, lodged by social activist and former Lok Sabha candidate Abhijit Das (Bobby), calls for the registration of an FIR and a detailed probe into the source, collection and disbursal of funds under the scheme. Complaint targets private pension initiative According to the complaint, around 76,000 senior citizens are receiving a monthly pension of ₹1,000 through the initiative, translating into an estimated annual expenditure of ₹91.2 crore. Das has sought clarity on how the funds are being mobilised and administered, alleging a lack of publicly available donor information, audited accounts, and beneficiary disclosures. Allegations over beneficiary data usage The complaint also seeks an inquiry into whether data submitted by applicants for government old-age pension schemes through Duare Sarkar camps was used to identify beneficiaries under the private programme. In addition, it requests verification of public statements made by Abhishek Banerjee regarding alleged Income Tax notices linked to the scheme and asks authorities to examine the authenticity and contents of any such communications. Agencies asked to examine finances The complainant has urged police to preserve all relevant financial records, digital data, banking transactions and beneficiary databases. He further requested that if any cognisable offence emerges during the preliminary inquiry, an FIR be registered and the matter referred to appropriate agencies, including the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate, for further examination. Das said the complaint aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and legal compliance in the operation of a programme involving substantial financial transactions and a large number of beneficiaries.
