A civilian aircraft crash on Sunday near the eastern French town of Tomblaine resulted in the death of 11 people, BBC reported. According to the same report, the plane carried a group of 10 skydivers and one pilot. The authorities have prompted a police cordon and warnings for the public to avoid the area. The plane was reportedly owned by a skydiving school. According to reports, the total number of passengers included five students and five skydiving coaches. The crash occurred in a built-up area near a shopping centre. Additionally, Seguy claimed that “Give or take a few meters and the accident could have caused collateral casualties.” Emergency services respond, investigation underway Emergency services and rescue teams rushed to the scene as soon as the accident was reported. Officials are recording statements from eyewitnesses to determine the cause of the crash. France’s Interior Ministry expressed its condolences over the incident and said that the Interior Minister is personally on the way to the crash site to assess the situation. Operational center activated for real-time monitoring The local administration said in a post on X that the Departmental Operational Center (COD) has been activated to monitor the situation in real time. All emergency response teams have been deployed, and the prefect is personally at the scene overseeing the rescue operation. ​
