The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced that the NEET PG 2026 examination will be held on 30 August. The online registration window opened at 5 pm on Tuesday and will remain open until 21 July. Candidates can submit their applications through the official NBEMS website. The examination will be conducted in a computer-based format, with city intimation slips and admit cards to be issued before the test. The result is expected to be declared by 30 September. NBEMS has also issued an advisory outlining several important changes to the application process, including a revised test city allocation system, Aadhaar-based authentication and stricter rules regarding correspondence addresses. No more first come, first serve for test city allotment One of the biggest changes this year is that test city allocation will no longer follow the first come, first serve system. The Board has asked candidates not to rush to submit their applications as soon as registration opens, clarifying that early submission will not improve their chances of securing a preferred test city or examination centre. Instead, candidates will be required to select three preferred test states while filling out the application form. The first preference must be the state mentioned in the candidate’s correspondence address. The remaining two preferences must be neighbouring states. NBEMS said it will make every effort to allot candidates a centre according to their preferences. However, it has reserved the right to assign a test city or examination centre anywhere in India due to administrative, security, logistical or technical requirements. Correspondence address cannot be changed later The Board has made it mandatory for candidates to provide a valid correspondence address supported by acceptable documentary proof. NBEMS has warned that the correspondence address and preferred test states cannot be modified after the application is submitted, including during the correction window. Candidates have therefore been advised to verify all address-related details carefully before final submission. Accepted proof of address includes government-issued identity documents carrying the address, such as Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID and Driving Licence. Other acceptable documents include bank statements, utility bills, rent agreements, employer certificates, hostel letters and certain medical registration documents. Information bulletin to be released shortly NBEMS has advised candidates to read the Information Bulletin carefully before submitting their applications. The bulletin, which will be released shortly, will contain detailed instructions regarding eligibility, application procedures, examination rules and other important guidelines. Candidates are encouraged to review all requirements thoroughly to avoid errors during registration and ensure a smooth application process.
