‘Either Amit Shah ordered the firing or is incompetent’:Rahul doubles down on Parliament claim, says ‘he has to go’

Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday evening alleged that he was not allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha, while Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Rajnath Singh were given the opportunity to address the House. Rahul Gandhi said the reason cited for stopping him was his remarks against Home Minister Amit Shah, whom he accused of being responsible for the alleged brutality against students. He demanded that Amit Shah should resign over the issue. Rahul said that during the proceedings in the House, he was told that he would be allowed to speak only after apologising. He said that as the Leader of the Opposition, it was his duty to raise issues concerning the country. He alleged that students were targeted during protests and claimed that pellet guns were used against them. Rahul said several students lost their eyesight due to pellet injuries and claimed that he had seen medical certificates related to the injuries. He also alleged that students were attacked with nail-studded batons. Earlier, the BJP held a press conference at 4:30 pm over Rahul Gandhi’s statement alleging that firing took place during the students’ Parliament march. BJP MP Sambit Patra accused Rahul Gandhi of making false claims in the Lok Sabha. Sambit Patra said the BJP rejects Rahul’s allegation that students were fired upon during the Parliament march. He said Rahul’s claim that Home Minister Amit Shah ordered the firing was also false, arguing that when no firing took place, there was no question of an order being issued. Rahul Gandhi alleged that police were using facial recognition technology to identify protesting students and were arresting and threatening them. He also accused members of the Bajrang Dal of beating students and said, “These are our children, and the government has no right to beat them.” He added that those responsible for the alleged violence should be punished. Question: You have alleged that pellet guns were used during the protest and that Amit Shah ordered it, but Jitendra Singh and Kiren Rijiju rejected these claims in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi said pellet guns are lethal weapons that can cause permanent damage, including loss of eyesight. He claimed that he had shown the case of a victim who had pellet injuries in his body and eyes. He said the AIIMS medical report also mentioned pellet gun injuries and claimed that he had personally seen the evidence. Responding to BJP leaders who accused him of lying, Rahul said, “What more proof should I give? Should I bring a rifle and show it?” Rahul also raised concerns over the education system, alleging that paper leaks were taking place regularly. Referring to the paper leak bill, he said increasing the punishment from one year to 10 years showed that the government itself accepted that paper leaks would continue. Rahul Gandhi said he had several options to raise his voice and criticised what he called the creation of a public image around Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He alleged that thousands of crores of rupees were being spent to build and protect that image. Rahul said the government was using various means to prevent that “balloon” from bursting but claimed that the reality had already come out and the public had seen the truth. ​
