522-Acre Bhopal Land Dispute: High Court Dismisses Maneka Gandhi And Sister’s Appeal

Court Blow To Maneka Gandhi: Writ Appeal Over Valuable Ancestral Property Dismissed

Maneka Gandhi Loses Legal Battle In MP High Court Over 522-Acre Bhopal Estate

The Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed the writ appeal filed by BJP leader Maneka Gandhi and her sister Ambika Shukla, dealing a major blow to their claims over a highly valuable 522-acre ancestral property in Bhopal.

The division bench of Acting Chief Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Pradeep Mittal officially brought an end to the 51-year-old high-profile family land dispute.

The case centers around the mutation of title (नामांतरण) for 522 acres of prime ancestral land located in the Laukhedi area under Huzur Tehsil in Bhopal.

The Legal Battle:

Maneka Gandhi and her sister filed an appeal against their maternal cousin, V.M. Singh (V.N. Singh). They alleged that Singh had previously secured a favorable mutation order for the land from the High Court without naming them as parties to the suit.

The High Court’s Rationale:

The opposite counsel proved that the objections raised by Maneka Gandhi and her sister were identical to those raised by their mother, Amteshwar Anand, which had already been comprehensively rejected by the Supreme Court of India.

The High Court highlighted that the appeal was heavily time-barred, filed with a massive delay of 1,691 days without a justifiable reason, making it legally unmaintainable

Following extensive arguments, the Jabalpur High Court Bench formally put a legal end to the long-standing family property conflict by rejecting the sisters’ claims and upholding the earlier transfers.
