A sudden gush of water entered a tunnel of Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) in Chamoli, trapping 18 workers. The incident took place at around 7 pm. As soon as the incident was reported, police and administrative teams reached the spot and started rescue operations. The rescue team has safely evacuated 16 workers. The operation is still underway to safely rescue the remaining workers trapped inside the tunnel. Chamoli Superintendent of Police Surjit Singh Panwar said five of the 16 workers rescued have been taken to the District Hospital in Gopeshwar. Ambulances have also been sent to the spot to take the other workers to hospital. Out of these, two labourers have been taken to District Hospital Gopeshwar, while ambulances have been sent to the spot to take others to the hospital. The administration and rescue teams are continuously monitoring the situation at the spot.
