A Panama-flagged cargo ship carrying iron ore from Odisha to Singapore sank in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday, officials told news agency PTI. The ship sank around 240 nautical miles off the Paradip coast in Odisha, with 24 crew members on board. Most of the crew members were reportedly Chinese. The Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy have launched a rescue operation, while other vessels in the area have been alerted to help. “We are not sure how many crew members have been rescued,” a senior IPS officer told PTI. The officer said the ship had left the Odisha coast on Friday.
