Upendra Bhushan Mishra Gets Mumbai, Shahi Sanjay Kumar Posted to Delhi In a major top-level reshuffle, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has promoted three senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS – Income Tax) officers of the 1993 Batch to the rank of Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT) – Level 16 in the Pay Matrix. According to the Office Order issued by CBDT, the promotions are for the Panel Year 2026 and will be effective from April 1, 2026 or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later. The officers elevated to CCIT rank are:1. N. C. Swain2. Raman Chopra3. Virendra Ojha Till their formal postings are ordered, all three officers will continue to hold their present charges on an in-situ basis. Major Postings Declared: In a separate posting order for CCITs, the Board has assigned crucial charges: – Shri Upendra Bhushan Mishra has been posted as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Central)-2, Mumbai – one of the most sensitive and important charges handling central circle investigations in the financial capital. – Shri Shahi Sanjay Kumar has been posted as *CCIT (OSD), Delhi at the headquarters of the Income Tax Department. The move is part of CBDT’s ongoing cadre restructuring exercise aimed at strengthening leadership at the top level and improving tax administration and taxpayer services across the country. The empanelment to the grade of Chief Commissioner is considered a significant career milestone, positioning these officers for Principal Chief Commissioner and CBDT Member level roles in the future.
