Nepal floods sweep away bank safe, ₹57 lakh stolen:29 detained for allegedly breaking it open

During the severe floods in Nepal, a bank locker from the Bhotekoshi area was swept away and carried several kilometres. Police have detained 29 people for allegedly breaking open the locker after it was later found in Dhading and taking the cash inside. According to police, the locker was found near Belkhukhola after being swept away by the floods. Police received information that local residents had broken it open and taken the cash. A police team then reached the spot and started an investigation. During the search, police recovered around ₹57 lakh, from the people detained.
Those accused of taking cash aged 19 to 49 According to police, most of those detained are residents of Mastar in Galchhi-4. Some are from Adamghat in Galchhi-6 and Adamtar in Siddhalek-7. Others are originally from Chitwan and Parsa but are currently living in Dhading. All those detained are aged between 19 and 49. Police are now investigating the source of the recovered money. They are also checking whether more people were involved in the case.

Two people have been arrested for allegedly taking gold earrings from the body of a woman who was swept away by floodwaters into the Narayani River. Police took action after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The number of missing people stood at 1,924 as of Friday night. Meanwhile, 517 foreign nationals are also still untraced. Search and rescue operations continue following the floods. ​
