New voter applications in Delhi cross 2.56 lakh:Draft roll released, claims and objections open till 30 September; final list on 4 November

Delhi has received 2,56,042 applications for new voter registration under the SIR process. The figure covers 13 districts. The applications include 2,12,400 Form-6 applications received by August 30 and 43,642 applications received between August 31 and September 11. The last date for filing claims and objections on the SIR draft electoral roll is September 30. These will be disposed of by October 31, and the final electoral roll will be published on November 4. West district leads in new voter registrations According to data released by the Election Commission, the West district received the highest number of applications for new voter registration at 34,249. Of these, 28,820 were received by August 30 and 5,429 between August 31 and September 11. The South-East district received 29,168 Form-6 applications, while the North-East district received 28,349. The New Delhi district recorded the lowest number of applications at 3,254. Form-6 is used to include a name in the electoral roll. Highest number of Form-8 applications According to the data, the highest number of applications were received under Form-8. It is used to correct details in the electoral roll, change address and replace a voter ID card. Delhi received a total of 2,76,832 Form-8 applications. Of these, 2,60,768 were received by August 30 and 16,064 between August 31 and September 11. The East district received the highest number of Form-8 applications at 34,535. It was followed by the North-East district with 34,353 and the South-East district with 31,792 applications. 52,016 applications to remove names Delhi received a total of 52,016 Form-7 applications. Form-7 is used to file an objection or request for deletion of a name from the electoral roll. Of these, 51,471 were submitted by August 30 and 545 between August 31 and September 11. The South-East district received the highest number of applications for deletion of names at 14,758. The North district received 11,637 such applications. 1,449 applications from overseas voters A total of 1,449 Form-6A applications were registered for overseas voters. Of these, 1,351 were received by August 30 and 98 between August 31 and September 11. The South-East and South districts recorded the highest number of Form-6A applications in the overseas voter category. Election officials have asked people to check and verify their details in the draft electoral roll. They have also urged people to file necessary claims or objections within the stipulated deadline. Third phase of SIR underway in 16 states, including Delhi and Maharashtra On May 14, the Election Commission announced the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 16 states and three Union Territories, including Haryana, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Maharashtra. This is the third phase of SIR. The entire process will run from May 30 to December 23. During this period, 36.73 crore voters are being verified. Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur, where SIR is being conducted, are scheduled to hold Assembly elections next year. The other 13 states will go to polls in 2028 and 2029. SIR completed in 10 states and 3 Union Territories The first and second phases of SIR have covered 10 states and three Union Territories. After SIR, the BJP won the Assembly elections in Bihar, West Bengal, Puducherry and Assam. The Congress-led alliance won in Kerala, while TVK won in Tamil Nadu. A Special Revision (SR) was conducted in Assam, where the BJP government also returned to power. ​
