For Meera, who was selling earthen lamps by the roadside at Telibandha Marine Drive in the became an unforgettable day. Like every day, she had decorated her small stall with diyas and was waiting for customers. Suddenly, the convoy of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai stopped near her stall.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai saw the earthen diyas kept at Meera’s stall and bought one diya from there for the ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ program to be organized under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’. The Chief Minister gave Rs 1000 to the woman. This simple gesture of the CM also became a beautiful message of respect for the hard work, self-esteem and self-reliance of Meera, who earns her livelihood through a small local business.

The Chief Minister’s sudden arrival at the small roadside stall was a pleasant surprise for the people present around. Without any formality, the Chief Minister asked Meera about her work and family.

GROUND REALITY OF WELFARE SCHEMES

During the conversation, CM Shri Sai asked Meera whether she was getting the benefits of the welfare schemes run by the Central and State Governments. In response, Meera said that her bank account has been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. She also told the Chief Minister that she is receiving Rs 1000 every month under the state government’s Mahtari Vandan Yojana.

Hearing about the benefits of the schemes from the woman, Chief Minister Shri Sai expressed happiness. He said that government schemes are meaningful only when their benefits reach the needy directly, give them support and help in making their lives better. The priority of the governance is that the benefits of welfare schemes reach the eligible beneficiaries with complete ease and transparency.

CM Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has created a strong foundation for financial inclusion by connecting poor, deprived and needy families with the banking system. Because of being connected to the banking system, today the amount of various schemes is reaching directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries.

He said that in Chhattisgarh, through Mahtari Vandan Yojana, financial assistance of Rs 1000 per month is being provided to the mothers and sisters of the state. This amount is not only helping in their small daily expenses but also increasing their financial confidence.

The Chief Minister said that whether they are small vendors putting up stalls on the roadside, potters, artisans or our mothers and sisters preparing local products – the strength of self-reliant Chhattisgarh lies in the hard work of all of them. It is our collective responsibility to encourage such people who earn their livelihood with their skills and hard work.

He said that adopting local products is not just buying an object. Behind it is the labour of a family, the skill of an artisan and the livelihood connected with the self-respect of a small businessman. When we buy goods from local vendors and artisans, our small effort gives support to their family and their livelihood.

‘AASHIRWAD KA DIYA’ TO BECOME A SYMBOL OF SEVA AND JANBHAGIDARI

This earthen diya purchased by Chief Minister Shri Sai from Meera will become a part of the ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ program to be organized under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’. Through this program, an effort is being made to connect the collective resolve towards service, public welfare and development with public participation.

CM Shri Sai said that in our culture, a diya is not just a medium of light, but a symbol of hope and positive resolve. When a small earthen diya burns, it removes the darkness around it. Similarly, when every person in the society moves forward with a small resolve of service, the path for big and positive change is paved through collective efforts.

He said that ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ expresses this very sentiment. It is a symbol of our resolve towards service and development and the strength of public participation. When citizens of the state connect with this spirit, this resolve of service will reach every home and every person.

CAMPAIGN TO MAKE SEVA A PEOPLE’S RESOLVE

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has dedicated 25 years of his public life to the nation and public service. From Prime Minister’s birthday on 17th September to 17th October, ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ is being organized. This campaign is an opportunity to further strengthen commitment towards service, good governance, poor welfare and development through public participation.

The Chief Minister called upon the people of the state to join the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan with full enthusiasm and warmth. Participate in cleanliness work in their village, city and surroundings, come forward for environmental protection, help the needy and definitely take some resolve of public service as per their capacity.

He said no act of service is small. Helping a needy, cleanliness around us, planting a sapling and taking care of it, buying an item from a local artisan or a small effort made in the interest of society can also become an important medium of public service.

A BIG MESSAGE IN A SMALL DIYA

The earthen diya purchased by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai from a small roadside stall at Telibandha Marine Drive became special in many ways. On one hand, it was associated with respect for the hard work and self-reliance of a woman earning livelihood through hard work, and on the other hand, in a simple conversation, the ground-level reach of welfare schemes like Jan Dhan and Mahtari Vandan also came to the fore. And now this same diya will become a symbol of the resolve of service, public participation and development through the ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ program.
