Four bomb attacks were reported at government offices and police facilities in Meghalaya’s capital Shillong between the evening of 16 September and the morning of 17 September, officials said on Thursday. Petrol bombs were used in the attacks. No one was injured in any of the incidents. Security has been increased at government and police premises across the city following the attacks. The identities of the attackers and the reasons behind the attacks are not yet known. Police are examining CCTV footage and other evidence. Health department complex and police booth targeted Early on Thursday, miscreants hurled petrol bombs at the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) campus in the Laitumkhrah area. The premises caught fire. Fire engines were sent to the spot to put out the blaze. Officials said the attackers could not be identified. Around the same time, unidentified miscreants set fire to a police booth in the Nongmensong area early on Thursday. Hours before these two attacks, a petrol bomb was hurled at Lumdiengjri police station on the night of 16 September. The bomb landed behind the room of the police station’s officer-in-charge, causing minor damage to the room. Mineral resources department office also attacked The Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR) office in Risa Colony was also targeted in a petrol bomb attack on the evening of 16 September. A DMR employee’s private vehicle was damaged in the incident. Local residents put out the fire. A senior police officer said, “We are investigating all the incidents. Security arrangements have been strengthened.” Police are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the attacks. Following the series of attacks, security has been further tightened around government and police facilities across the city. ​
