Delhi Police have filed a 398-page chargesheet in the nearly two-month-old sleeper bus gang-rape case. According to the police, some evidence was recovered from the bus, including semen samples and hair. The chargesheet contains statements from 10 witnesses, including police personnel, doctors and others. It was filed in court on 18 September, and the court took cognisance of it on 24 September. According to the police, the victim boarded the bus at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. The accused left her at Kashmere Gate. During this time, the bus travelled approximately 47 km. Curtains had been fitted over the bus windows. Police had arrested the bus driver, Kuldeep, and the conductor, Sandeep. The victim is from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district and is a Class 11 student. Victim left home after an argument According to the police, the victim is from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. After an argument with her family, she left for her cousin’s house in Noida by bus without telling anyone. The distance from Mainpuri to Noida is more than 300 km. 2. She got off at Greater Noida Because of the heavy rain and darkness, the student mistakenly got off at Pari Chowk. She then began waiting for a vehicle to take her to Noida. Meanwhile, an empty sleeper bus passed by. The student signalled for the bus to stop. 3. The driver and conductor got her on the bus The driver and conductor made the student board the bus. They told her that the bus was going to Noida Sector 63. According to the police, some time after the bus started, the conductor tried to make an obscene advance towards the student. 4. They then gang-raped her and threatened her The student told the police that the driver and conductor raped her. When she resisted, the two men threatened to kill her. 5. Abandoned her near Kashmere Gate and fled The two men allegedly dropped the student late at night on Ring Road near the Kashmere Gate bus terminal. They then fled the spot. The student contacted the Kashmere Gate police that night and informed them about the incident. 6. Both accused arrested Based on the victim’s complaint, investigators formed a team under the leadership of Kotwali ACP Shankar Banerjee. The team examined CCTV footage from along the route to identify the bus and track its route. Police arrested the driver, Kuldeep, and the conductor, Sandeep, from a bus parking area in Timarpur. The sleeper bus used in the incident was also seized. A forensic examination of the bus is under way. 3 pictures of the inside and outside of the bus… According to police sources, on the day of the incident, after the bus developed a fault, the accused took it to a workshop in Surajpur, Noida, for repairs. After the repairs were completed, the driver and conductor were taking the empty bus to Timarpur when the student signalled for it to stop at Pari Chowk. Police said the two used the curtained interior of the bus to conceal the crime during the late-night journey. This prevented people passing outside from seeing inside. The Nirbhaya case took place in Delhi 14 years ago; a gang rape occurred on a moving bus On the night of 16 December 2012, a 23-year-old woman was gang-raped on a moving bus in Delhi. A metal rod was inserted into her private parts. She was referred to Singapore because of her serious injuries, where she died in hospital on 29 December. The case triggered protests across Delhi and the country. The media named it the Nirbhaya case. Six people were named as accused in the case. One accused was a minor, while another died by suicide in jail. The four convicts – Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Kumar Singh – were sentenced to death.
