Four terrorists, including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, are reportedly dead after a landmine exploded during an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The four terrorists have been identified as Mohammad Ishtiyaq, Mohammad Faizan, Mohammad Waqas and Mohammad Aseem. According to reports, the group was attempting to infiltrate through the Nangi Takri area of the Krishna Ghati sector on Monday afternoon. During the attempt, they entered a landmine-infested area, triggering a powerful explosion. All four terrorists died on the spot. Indian security forces have issued an alert across the sector. Surveillance along the LoC has also been intensified to prevent any potential security breach. Two landmines destroyed in Mendhar sector In another incident, the Indian Army detected two old landmines near the border fence in the Basoni area of Poonch’s Mendhar sector on Monday. Officials said the mines were found at 8:25 am and 12:10 pm during path-clearing work. Army experts destroyed both landmines in controlled explosions. Officials said around a dozen landmines had been detected and neutralised in the same area over the past week. Landmines surface due to rain Landmines have been laid at several places near the Line of Control to prevent infiltration. However, heavy rain can dislodge the mines and bring them to the surface. This can pose a threat to local residents and security forces.
