Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray took down a documentary from social media on Sunday. It had been made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani. Raj Thackeray said he had taken the step at the request of the Mumbai police commissioner. According to him, the documentary made by Hotmail founder Sabir Bhatia had received more than 48 lakh views on X. In fact, Mumbai Police has sent legal notices to 24 account holders. These people had shared the documentary posted by Sabir Bhatia. MNS leaders questioned whether the police had requested Raj Thackeray to remove the documentary under pressure from someone. In a post on X, Raj Thackeray said the documentary had been posted to provide information to the public. He said the film provided complete information about the long-standing friendship between Adani and PM Modi. Claim of raising issue of Adani and PM Modi’s ties Raj Thackeray said he had been raising the issue of the close ties between Adani and PM Modi since January. This was before the BMC elections. He said Sabir Bhatia had made the documentary recently. However, he had given a detailed presentation on the same issue at his residence, Shiv Tirth, in January 2026. According to Raj Thackeray, the presentation explained how the Adani Group was moving towards taking control of the entire country. Videos related to the issue are still available on his social media accounts. Some portions of those videos were included in the documentary. MNS leaders question removal of documentary The documentary was screened at an MNS branch on Saturday. Party leaders subsequently expressed surprise at its removal. MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande asked Mumbai Police why it had requested Raj Thackeray to remove the documentary. Deshpande said, “What pressure was Mumbai Police under? Is this the job of Mumbai Police? They do not have time to find out how Bishnoi gang goons enter the city. But they have time to check who posted which video.” Legal notices sent to 24 accounts Mumbai Police sent legal notices to 24 accounts on 18 October. The people behind these accounts had shared the controversial documentary posted by Sabir Bhatia. According to the notices, the documentary contained false, misleading and defamatory statements and allegations against the company. These had been circulated without any factual or legal basis. The notice stated that this was causing continuous damage to the company’s reputation, credibility and public image.
