Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan walked out of Rampur Jail alongside his son Abdullah after 11 months, but the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him right at the jail gate. Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials initially questioned Azam outside the jail before taking him away in their vehicle. The ED will produce Azam before a Ghaziabad court. The ED alleges that Azam misused government funds and money linked to contracts in the construction of Jauhar University. The agency is investigating irregularities and money laundering involving expenses of ₹416.14 crore. Prior to this, a lengthy argument broke out between the ED and Azam outside the jail. Meanwhile, Azam remarked emotionally, “What is left to say now? This is the punishment for being a Muslim. The mistake is that a Muslim built a university. This is our crime.” Meanwhile, his son Abdullah Azam headed home following his release. In fact, an ED team had entered the jail premises about 15 minutes before Azam’s release, with 24 CRPF personnel also deployed. On 29 October, the Allahabad High Court suspended the 10-year sentence of Azam and Abdullah in a dual PAN card case, granting bail to both. Reacting to Azam’s arrest, Akhilesh Yadav posted on X, “The entire nation, as well as the whole world, is watching the conspiracy of cases being orchestrated against Azam Khan Sahib.” “The wrong precedent being fanned by those currently in power will claim them as victims when the tide turns. There will be nowhere to run then.” Post navigation Major Bureaucratic Reshuffle in UP: 15 IAS Officers Given New Roles, Chief Secretary Goyal Gets Extra Charge of Civil Aviation Britain may apologise for acts of slavery:PM Andy Burnham rejects compensation for affected countries despite 400-year-long slave trade history
